How Often Should You Rotate Your Tires?

2020 Maserati Ghibli
When you’re taking your car around Dallas, you’re going to need to rotate your tires eventually. How often should you rotate your tires? The answer to how many miles to rotate tires is a few thousand in each case, but it depends on your drivetrain. Essence Maserati is going to walk you through when to rotate tires and offer you some other excellent parts tips.

How To Rotate Your Tires

If you want to save a trip to the shop and rotate your tires at home, it’ll require you have a car jack and a lug nut wrench. Here’s our walkthrough on how to rotate your tires:

  1. Apply your parking brake.
  2. Loosen the lug nuts on all four wheels but don’t remove them in their entirety.
  3. Lift the first wheel with the jack and put the stand beneath the raised wheel.
  4. Remove each tire, one by one.
  5. Take a moment to check your tires’ pressure while they’re off the car, then place the tire in the correct position based on your vehicle’s drivetrain and place the lug nuts on as tight as you can.
  6. Lower the car off the stand and with the lug nut wrench, tighten the lug nuts back into place in a star pattern to ensure that they tighten evenly. This is important because if you don’t tighten them evenly, you run the risk of warping your brake rotor.

How Often To Rotate Your Tires

FWD and RWD drivetrains need to have their tires rotated every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. On the other hand, if you have an AWD vehicle, rotate them every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. For the best idea on how often you should rotate your tires, be sure to check your owner’s manual.

  • FWD Tires: If your car is FWD, move the front tires to the back on the same side of the car while changing sides going back to front. For instance, your old rear right will become your new front left while your former front right will become your new rear right.
  • RWD Tires: Go in reverse when doing this for RWD tires. Move the rear tires to the front on the same side of the car while changing sides going front to back.
